thanks so much for the ooze segment. i read the article when it first came out and couldn't believe my eyes.

there is a great book called Humanure that talks about composting toilets. i really recommend it. lots of sited facts and figures about the worlds "waste" issues and water usage.

p.s. if its yellow let it mellow!

When I first moved to greenpoint, some friends of mine told me about this, but I figured it was one of those hippy government conspiracy theories. Scary that this is so true, and i sleep right on top of this mess every night...

Great video(s), but I was surprised to see that "eat less beef" wasn't included in the water-saving tips, since it would have such a huuuuge impact. (I did see it mentioned in another video though, which is awesome ;)

Stunning. I can't think of any other way to describe that video. Sticking your head in the sand is no longer possible, it'll come up soaked in ooze. And the SinkPositive sink is available through Gaiam (Real Goods), as well. I bought one and it is the talk of the party. Very cool, thanks for all your efforts to raise the awareness of what we have to do and ways we can do it!

User Tips

The tip I suggest is that if you want to reduce the amount of water used in your toilet per flush, place a quart-jug of water (with the lid screwed on) into your toilet tank.  This way, the volume of the toilet tank will be reduced and the amount of water pumped into the bowl each flush will be reduced by one quart.  And it won't make your toilet overflow because toilet tanks stop filling once the floating device reaches a certain point.

A great way to save water is to disconnect the drain pipe at the bottom of the sink, and put a bucket below so the water drains into the bucket. When the bucket gets full, you could use the water to flush the toilet.
